First off the Independent story left out the name of the County, Santa Barbara. As well as the Pension name SBCERS in its title for their recent story. This keeps the material in the story being found in an Internet search. Also former Santa Barbara District Attorney Stanley's name or her survivor does not appear on the retired list from the County. I just think that what she or her benefactor receives from this County should also be on the list. The L.A. Times took their request one step further. Not only did they request the amount each retiree was receiving from the SBCERS pension. The Times also requested what they pensioner earned before they retired, and that is the key! Former Santa Barbara District Attorney Sneddon earns more in retirement than his replacement Stanley did or than current D.A. Dudley does on the Job! Look @ http://www.sbcgj.org/2011/CompensationSurvey.pdf and you will find in 2011.................

The Independent story said;
Of the 2,904 people who receive a pension through SBCERS, 152 get more than $100,000 per year and 25 people — including ten who worked in the Sheriff’s Department — receive more than $150,000. Of the top 25, eight served as the heads of their respective departments at one time of another. Six retired prosecutors from the DA’s office are also in the top 25. The highest name on the list is longtime District Attorney Tom Sneddon, who rakes in a whopping $224,672.64 every year.

So I ask how does Tom Sneddon currently receive 45k more per year than than the last two d.a.'s? I have not gone over the list other than a quick glance but I am expecting to find more than just Senddon abusing the pension system.!!

I have searched for information on Sneddon's salary in his last year as DA (which should be a matter of public record) but have been unable to locate it. Do you know?
I found an old Daily Sound story which gave a figure for former D.A. Sneddon the story said his final annual salary was $197,826.

"For retiring District Attorney Tom Sneddon, whose last day on the job was weeks away at the time of the decision, this meant big money. County documents show that Sneddon walked out the door with $42,032 for 443.1 hours of unused vacation time that immediately appeared on his pay stub. This was on top of his annual salary of $197,826."

Vacation pay raises questions
By COLBY FRAZIER — Jan. 12, 2010
Whether they went on vacation or not, five elected officials in Santa Barbara County government accepted more than $100,000 combined in vacation payouts over the last four years, raising questions about how such benefits accumulate and are subsequently deducted from elected leaders who answer to no time clock.
Since 2006, the district attorney, clerk-recorder and assessor, auditor-controller, sheriff and treasurer-tax collector have been allowed to accumulate and be paid for 80 hours of vacation each year.
The story is very kong so please click on the link to read the whole story.
