Santa Barbara Law Enforcement in the News for All the Wrong Reasons. Comments I Received about my Postings, Thank You

Santa Barbara has so much going on right now that I could write a post every day for the next 3 weeks,  using only my notes and research from this past weekend. I was hoping to include ( in my last posting ) my thoughts about Santa Barbara Police Officer Kasi Betuel who has been in the news quite a bit as of late. Former Santa Barbara Police Detective Brian Sawicki. Who was charged two years ago with 5 misdemeanors for lewd acts. Karen Flores the SBPD civilian employee arrested for embezzling from the Police a week ago. Superior Court Judge Brian Hill who is presiding over the Hortipharm medical cannabis case where 42 of the original 43 felony charges were dismissed. Finally what about the possible departure of Cam Sanchez?
But there is so much to write about it might take me the full 3 weeks.

Is it me or is this current election for City Council more important than one might think? I did write about one murder trial Monday that is about to begin with no DNA results( really Mr. Prosecutor?). What does it say that Santa Barbara Law Enforcement is constantly in the Headlines for all the wrong reasons?

I appreciate any comments you might have, here are two that were sent to me below.

This was a reply to I received to  my August 16th posting The Vargas Murder Trial is set to Begin. Defense Attorney Ron Bamieh waiting for Discovery and DNA Evidence. Santa Barbara Prosecutor Hans Almgrens plays us for fools! Remember the DNA evidence for the Ricardo Juarez Murder Trial?
Congratulations Larry on your four hundredth posting it was one of your best ever. Each paragraph seemed to make its own statement that was clear and easy to understand. All your concerns flowed smoothly from start to finish. You wrote this posting in such a way that it was directed at both yourself and anyone reading it at the same time. I felt like this was a warning that said: Here is what happened to me and it COULD happen to you too! There is power writing and writing powerfully keep doing both and spreading the truth.
I may even write some things for you. But not under my own name, at least not at first. I feel I have helped you along in your efforts, but this one is all you. Larry you need to keep up the quality of work and figure out how to how to expand your audience.

This was a reply from Fridays posting “ FRIDAY, AUGUST 12, 2011
 Larry,
Contact your local paper/LA Times financial section.  Say that you have proved 1 billion dollars is missing from the SBCERS fund that cannot be accounted for by the economy.  Challenge the paper and independent accounts to prove otherwise.  If you are correct in your analysis – this is huge!  Where did that money go?
This is just one of many response I received about last Fridays posting. In that posting I went over how I was able to prove that in 1986 the SBCERS Pension was actually 102% funded. My findings are indisputable which is probably why Santa Barbara County Auditor-Controller Robert Geis has not responded to any of my correspondence.
I find it ironic that the writer mentioned the Los Angeles Times in his response. You see on July 18th 2011 both the Times and Santa Barbara News Press submitted a public records request to the SBCERS. The Los Angeles Times requested a larger amount of information than the news press including the amount paid to each recipient. When dealing with these public pensions you have to remember that the recent losses have an impact far beyond the year that it occurred. For example in 2009 Santa Barbara County took a course of action that will last until 2028. Between now and then our County will continue to experience yearly budget deficits because of the losses of 2008 & 09. I feel there is no place to hide and cannot wait to see what data the Los Angeles Times publishes. I am not surprised at the request by the Times since the vast majority of new links to my blog involve my pension stories as you can see for yourself below.

Below are some comments I found on the Internet about the Cam Sanchez situation.

I think a good old fashion outside investigation is in order to check on just what theseso-called city leaders have been up to. I think it might be interesting to follow the money trail and see where all this "spending" has been going. Why they're at it, check out Salud too.

Good By! It's time to get someone in there with a pair. Also, one who man's up and says"It's time for me to go"I mean look at the drama-Citizen beating-Cops run-a-muck-Biz Manager's Piggy Bank. The problem unfortunately is the nature of Upper Management in Civil Service. On paper..these guys have more degrees than a thermometer. Sanchez like ALL City top cops are retreads from other departments. It's the same with them ALL. City Managers,Superintendents,Fire Chiefs, the list goes on and on. Sort of like rotating a bald tire.

Comment from Daily Sound website

LOOK TO CHIEF SANCHEZ FOR ACCOUNTABILITY : 8/11/2011

BETWEEN ALLEGED RAILROADED DUI'S THAT ARE LIKELY BOGUS AND ALLEGED THEFT OF PUBLIC MONIES, THE REAL QUESTION IS WHAT KIND OF LEADER IS CHIEF SANCHEZ, AND WHY IS HE STILL HERE? IS THE CHIEFREALLY DOING HIS JOB, OR IS IT A TERRIBLE DISAPPOINTMENT. GANGS AND KILLINGS ON STATE STREET AND AN INABILITY TO POLICE OUR COMMUNITY AND HIS OWN DEPARTMENT EFFECTIVELY, SHOULD RAISE REAL QUESTIONS. AND, HOPEFULLY SAN BERNARDINO TAKES HIM. WE'D SPRING FOR A BUS TICKET.

CONCERNED CITIZEN

Now the Santa Barbara Police do have two Interesting links on their web page about crime that does not involve law enforcement. I suggest before any candidate for City Council Candidate runs their platform on crime and gangs they should review the numbers for themselves. You can literally review the crime data block by block for all of Santa Barbara.
Crime Statistics
Beat and Report Districts
For Patrol and Reporting purposes, the City is divided into 6 Beats containing multiple Report Districts (Neighborhoods) within each Beat.  View these areas by clicking on these links:Santa Barbara Beat MapSanta Barbara Report Districts Map Clicking on beat map takes you here @
The next link gives you the choice to review the crime data as a combined whole. Of if you look on the left you may select any section numbered 9-78.
Report District (Neighborhood) Crime Activity
Reports taken at the scene of an incident are called Offense Reports, referred to as a GO (General Offense) report. For a history of all GO reports Citywide, or by individual Report District, click here. Clicking here takes you here @
The combined total looks like this.
